RUC Students Volunteer at IAAF World Championships

August 30th, 2015, saw the successful completion of the IAAF World Athletics Championships held in Beijing’s National Stadium. 40 students from Renmin University volunteered during the event. Their service was honored by the organizing committee; three of the students won prizes for “outstanding volunteer service.” 21 In early June, RUC’s University Youth League began recruiting volunteers for the IAAF World Athletics Championships. After careful assessment, 40 students from across the university’s schools and faculties were selected to participate in rigorous training to prepare for volunteer service beginning on August 22nd. Serving for a total of 4,500 hours, RUC’s student volunteers worked tirelessly in eight different departments during the event, including assisting in the news center, photography, and reporting. The President of the International Olympic Committee, as well as the organizing committee and other event coordinators, expressed deep appreciation for the impeccable service offered by this year’s student volunteers. RUC’s RAO Yuwei, FANG Wenyu, and MA Jinna were awarded prizes for “outstanding volunteer service.” Renmin University seeks to incorporate "public service" and "volunteer service" as an essential element of undergraduate education in an effort to foster public responsibility, interpersonal skills, and social concern among students. During the IAAF World Athletics Championships, RUC’s Youth League volunteers helped further the university’s aim of promoting social responsibility through their proactive cooperation with the organizing committee, enthusiasm for volunteering, as well as contributing their skills and professionalism, winning them the appreciation of all involved. The University Youth League, in cooperation with other groups, is dedicated to improving the quality of it volunteer service and strengthening its social commitment on and off campus.
