On the 28th of October, a meeting was held between the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Government of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region (NHAR) during which, as part of the “Belt and Road” initiative, they signed a memorandum of collaboration. The newly appointed Minister of Education CHEN Baosheng and CP Committee Chairman of the NHAR LI Jianhua attended the meeting. During the meeting they held a ceremony in recognition of the significance of the occasion. In attendance representing RUC were University Council Chairwoman JIN Nuo and Vice Chairman ZHANG Jianming.
During the meeting, Minister CHEN commended the NHAR’s commitment to education, and their support of innovation and reforms of the education system. He emphatically stated the significance of this memorandum, and the central role it will have as part of the ‘Belt and Road’ initiative. In this, it will enable a flow of educational resources into the region that will improve economic development, playing a pivotal role in poverty alleviation. Further, it will act to develop the best and brightest of the region, having a flow on effect for improving the quality of education in Western regions.
Following Minister CHEN, Chairman LI Jianhua took the opportunity to express his thanks to the MoE for the many years of support that they have given to the NHAR. He stated Ningxia’s firm dedication to improving education as a means to foster the development of talented people, promote innovation, and accelerate development. He noted, however, that the education system in Ningxia still lags behind that of developed regions, especially with respect to the quality of education services they are able to deliver. He concluded by expressing hope that the MoE and other academic institutions will continue their support in developing educational services in the NHAR, so as to foster inter-collegiate cooperation and improvement in the quality of education, thereby driving economic development.
During the ceremony, Chairwoman JIN and Vice Chairman of the NHAR YAO Aixing jointly signed the document titled “Agreement for a Strategy of Collaboration Between RUC and the NHAR Government.” In accordance with this agreement, both sides have made a commitment to establishing a collaborative partnership that is lasting, comprehensive, stable, and mutually beneficial. This agreement aims to develop cooperation in such keys areas as research and policy, professional training and development, and academic exchange.
During the signing, Chairwoman JIN and Chairman LI confirmed their mutual commitment to fostering collaboration between RUC and NHAR, highlighting the importance of providing high-level education and of developing Ningxia’s education facilities. Chairman LI expressed thanks to RUC, saying that they look forward to a lasting partnership, and will always have the firm support of Ningxia.
Director of the President’s Office ZHENG Shuiquan was among those in attendance at the ceremony.
Representatives of Beijing Normal University attended the ceremony also, signing their own memorandum of collaboration with the NHAR.
