Vice President HONG Dayong Goes on Research Trip to RUC's Suzhou Campus, Attends Cross-Strait Social Welfare Symposium

th of November Vice President HONG visited RUC’s Suzhou campus to conduct research into undergraduate education, student recruitment, laboratory construction and facility management, and campus informatisation, also taking the opportunity to attend the Cross-Strait Social Welfare Symposium that was held on campus at that time. Suzhou campus University Council Chair and Director of the School of International Relations and the Sino-French Institute ZHU Xinkai, Deputy Directors of the School of International Relations SHI Jiayou and ZHANG Chen and others accompanied Vice President HONG on the research trip.
On the morning of the 4
th, Director ZHU Xinkai briefed Vice President HONG on the current situation of campus development, undergraduate education, student recruitment and student development at the Suzhou campus, with a particular emphasis on introducing the plan to internationalise the curriculum.
Following the briefing, Vice President HONG expressed his approval of Suzhou’s steady development, and further extended his gratitude to the hard work of all of the leadership and staff at the Suzhou campus. He raised the point that whilst the Suzhou campus had its own unique attributes, it was still of the same ilk as RUC. Thus, the campus must continue to innovate itself on the foundation of the educational principles core to RUC, so as to make a unique and meritorious contribution to the development of RUC. Vice President HONG concluded by proffering some suggestions on how to proceed with the important task of developing undergraduate education, student recruitment, laboratory construction and facility management, and campus informatisation.
After the meeting Vice President HONG went on a campus tour, accompanied by Director ZHU Xinkai and Deputy Director ZHANG Chen.
During the tour they visited the language lab, where Professor LIN Ting of the Sino-French Institute introduced Vice President HONG to the language lab facilities, giving him a run-down on how it operates. Vice President HONG noted that French was a very popular subject at the Suzhou campus, saying how important the language lab was for student development.
Following, they visited the Financial Risk and Big Data Laboratory, where HE Xueqiang, lecturer from the School of International Relations, demonstrated for Vice President HONG how to use the database, highlighting the importance of the laboratory for developing students’ skills in the field of financial risk studies. After taking in the demonstration, Vice President HONG noted that this era of big data is of significance to the task of campus informatisation, and that RUC must continue to develop the capacity of the Financial Risk and Big Data Laboratory so as to make it make it an important site in global research.
VP Hong also visited an exhibition on the history of the Suzhou campus, learning about the construction of the library and the Student Services Centre.

th, Vice President HONG attended the 2016 Cross-Strait Social Welfare Symposium that was held at the RUC Suzhou campus, and gave a speech at the opening ceremony.
The 2016 Cross-Strait Social Welfare Symposium is jointly sponsored by RUC and the Taiwan Chinese Culture and Social Welfare Foundation, with the topic being “Population Change and Social Welfare: Policy Development and Pragmatic Innovation,” with all the guests engaging in lively academic discussion on such topics as: policy development in the face of population decline; developing youth employment opportunities; an aging society and policy development; and population flow and a developing society.
