2016.11.22
On the 15
th and 16
th of November RUC President LIU Wei and Vice Chairman of the University Council WU Fulai led a delegation that travelled to Yan’an to visit Shanbei Public School, the Luxun Academy of Fine Arts (LAFA), Yangjialing, and the Zaoyuan Revolutionary Site. This was in order to understand and learn about RUC’s historical roots and the history of the CCP, and also to hold talks with leaders from Yan’an University (YAU).
On the afternoon of the 15
th, President LIU arrived at YAU, taking a tour of the University’s history museum and library, taking in accounts of the University’s evolution and development, and used the opportunity to hold talks with YAU University Council Chairman XUE Yizhong and President ZHANG Jinsuo.
During the discussion, Chairman XUE briefed President LIU on some of the historical achievements of and difficulties faced by YAU, as well as the plans for the future development of the University. He expressed his deep gratitude for RUC’s long history of supporting YAU, especially with regards improving its teaching staff, and expressed hope that the two institutions would continue to develop their collaborative partnership.
President LIU noted that RUC and YAU both originated out of Shanbei Public School, both developing from the hardships experienced during the Anti-Fascist War, demonstrative of the strength of the ties between the two institutions. As both Universities were born out of the War and developed under the Party’s guidance, they both have much in common despite being located in different parts of China. For example, both uphold the conviction of serving the people, the government, and the nation, with efforts always taking into consideration how best to contribute in service of these three. Further, both Universities dedicate themselves to the sound tradition of “hard work and plain living,” persistently carrying forward and promoting this important personal quality that is valued by the people of China and by the CCP, that regardless how difficult the conditions faced, we always move forward. Finally, both Universities share common academic specialisation, excelling in the fields of the Humanities and Social Sciences.
President LIU continued, stating that as a University established by the CCP, the courses have always been run under the premise of satisfying the needs of the people, that in the process of meeting the requirements of the Ministry of Education’s “double first-rate” plan it must face both challenges of meeting global standards whilst maintaining its unique Chinese character. Next year is the 80-year anniversary for both Universities, a great milestone to be celebrated, and a great time to reflect on the achievements of both institutions, to advance toward the goal of becoming world-class Universities, and to create further space for academic collaboration.
On the 16
th, President LIU Wei visited the old sites of the Shanbei Public School and the Luxun Academy of Fine Arts.
During the visit, President LIU and the RUC delegation called on a group of students who were at the site to study the history of the Party, encouraging the students to earnestly seek to understand the spirit and deeds of the former revolutionaries, and to bring back their experiences with them.
Assistant to the President ZHENG Shuiquan, Deputy Managing Director of the Archives Office LI Hui and others accompanied President LIU on this trip.
