RUC Convenes Research Seminar for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics

On the 23rd of February, a research seminar for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics was convened at RUC. RUC University Council deputy Chairman and director of the Physical Education Department WU Fulai attended the seminar, along with the director of the RUC Research Centre for a Humanistic Olympics FENG Huiling and others. Director FENG outlined the background to Beijing’s preparations for the Winter Olympics, as well as the role that the Research Centre will have in the preparations. She stated that the Research Centre for a Humanistic Olympics conducts interdisciplinary research into many aspects of the Olympics, and is of great service to the Olympic preparations. Head of the Winter Olympics Planning Department XU Da expressed approval of the Olympic research done at RUC, and also made some suggests about further work that the research centre could carry on with. He stated that the work done at the Centre had made countless great achievements, and that they would continue to produce quality work in the future that is of great benefit to the Planning Department. Deputy Chairman WU extended a welcome on behalf of the University towards the guests, informing them of the central role that RUC plays in the humanities and social sciences in China. Since the Humanistic Olympics Research Centre was established it has conducted much fruitful interdisciplinary research that has been widely influential, and has also made a contribution to the quality of physical education on campus. RUC will continue to support the work of the Centre, and strive to make more positive contributions for the preparations of the Winter Olympics. Following the seminar, both sides signed a research cooperation agreement, and the research team will be composed of leading scholars from RUC and 5 of Beijing’s other top universities. The RUC Research Centre for a Humanist Olympics was established in 2001, and conducts interdisciplinary research encompassing fields such as philosophy, sociology, cultural studies, journalism, physical education, economics, management studies, information and resource management, and involves both Chinese and international academics. It is recognised by the CCP Central Committee and the State Council as Beijing’s leading group in research on the Olympics and Paralympics.
