Finland’s University of Lapland President visits RUC

On November 23, RUC Vice President DU Peng met with University of Lapland in Finland’s President Mauri Yla-Kotola.

DU Peng expressed a warm welcome to President Yla-Kotola upon seeing him again, and briefly spoke on the current cooperation between RUC and Finland. He recalled that University of Lapland is one of RUC’s major partners in Finland. Both universities signed a cooperative agreement to expand their collaborative projects, and build more frequent student and teacher exchange programs. RUC School of Law Professor HAN Dayuan was honored with a doctorate of law degree at University of Lapland in Finland, which serves as a testimony of the collaboration between the two universities. DU Peng extended his thanks to University of Lapland and hopes that both universities can continue to expand their exchanges and have even deeper cooperation.

Yla-Kotola expressed his enthusiasm in again coming to visit RUC, and welcomed President DU Peng to come and visit University of Lapland in the future. He expressed that this time coming to China, he was on the Olympic Committee for the 2022 Winter Olympics Art and Design as he researches art and design, and hopes that through this visit, he can strengthen the cooperation between the School of Fine Arts of the two universities.

RUC School of Law Dean WANG Tie, School of Fine Arts Vice President CHEN Hao and RUC International Director Cheng Xin were in attendance.

After the meeting, President Yla-Kotola visited RUC School of Fine Arts, and had in-depth exchanges with students and teachers there.

University of Lapland was established in 1979, and was Finland’s earliest universities focused on humanities and social sciences. The university was constructed on the Arctic Circle, and is Finland and Europe’s most northern university. University of Lapland has a School of Fine Arts and Design, School of Social Sciences, Business and Tourism, School of Education, and School of Law, along with North Pole Center, Methods Research Department, Language Center, Library, Graduate Studies and University of Lapland Service Center. University of Lapland Research Institute strength lies in its design and arts, benefits, diversity, International School of Law, and many other academic disciplines.
