Confucius Institute at University of Zimbabwe Convenes Symposium on “One Belt, One Road”

On October 12, held at the University of Zimbabwe, the University’s Confucius Institute hosted a Symposium on “One Belt, One Road”. This Symposium was held in response to China’s national “One Belt, One Road” policy, and was a part of the Confucius Institute of University of Zimbabwe’s 10-year anniversary celebration. China’s deputy ambassador to Zimbabwe ZHAO Baogang, RUC Deputy Secretary ZHANG Jianming, University of Zimbabwe Vice Chancellor and Professor Levi Nyagura were all in attendance, along with RUC International Deputy Director LV Jie, Confucius Institute at University of Zimbabwe China Affairs Dean WU Po, Foreign Affairs Dean LI Kaiming, the language department, politics department, history department, experts, teachers and students were all in attendance. University of Zimbabwe Vice Chancellor and Professor Levi Nyagura opened the event with a welcome speech.

Zhao Baogang introduced President Xi Jinping’s proclamations made in 2013 on One Belt, One Road policies and the development or changes that have ensued including economy, education, and various cooperations between China and Zimbabwe.

Zhang Jianming expressed “One Belt, One Road” initiatives stem from the Ancient Silk Road culture, its modernization and popularization. In this new age of promoting open, balanced, sustainable globalization, advocacy and strategy is pertinent to implementation across the board from north and south, Chinese and foreign, ancient and modern.

The Symposium was divided into three parts, each part of the theme was addressed by distinguished guest speakers, and participants had a chance for Q&A to answer questions they may have had. Among the issues discussed included the economics and trade between China and Zimbabwe, the role of “One Belt, One Road” policies, and key benefits of the Confucius Institute programs.
