Watchkeeping and Caregiving: 2020 Deans Conference on Journalism and Communication was Held

On October 24
th, the 2020 Deans Conference on Journalism and Communication was held in the School of Journalism and Communication. The theme of this year’s Dean Conference is “Watchkeeping and Caregiving: Journalism and Communication in the Global Pandemics.” Deans, experts and scholars from fifteen schools of Journalism, domestic and abroad, were invited to conduct exchanges and discussions both online and offline. More than 2,000 audience audited the conference via online live broadcast.

Professor LIU Wei, President of Renmin University of China, gave speech at the opening ceremony. Professor LIU pointed out that we are now living in an era of rapid development of news communication technology, and the way to face the challenges of technological change is a question that the academia pays close attention to. He looks forward to in-depth dialogues among the deans in order to jointly promote deeper reform of education in journalism.

The Conference includes three round-table panels with the following topics: Journalism and Communication Education: Consistence and Change; Media Ethics: Principles and Procedures; Media Practice: Professionalism and Humanism.

Held every two years, the Deans Conference on Journalism and Communication is a flagship program of the School of Journalism and Communication RUC. In the 2018 Conference, deans from 18 schools of journalism and scholars from more than 130 universities participated in the meeting. Under the global epidemics this year, the School of Journalism and Communication still expects dialogues with academic counterparts with the idea of "facing the new era, globalization and new technology."
