China-EU Green Development Forum 2020 Was Held

On December 3rd, China-EU Green Development Forum was held at Renmin University of China. The forum was jointly held by National Academy of Development and Strategy RUC, School of International Studies RUC and China International Culture Exchange Center. It was part of the celebration activities for the 70
th anniversary of the School of International Studies, also a warm-up activity for the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP-15) which will be held in Kunming next year.


Prof. LIU Yuanchun, Vice President RUC, said in his speech that green development is an important strategy choice according to China's development and environment conditions. China and Europe are highly complementary in the fields of green development and climate change, with great cooperation potentials. The two sides should make full use of their complementary advantages in technology, manufacturing and finance, seeking sustainable economic development through green cooperation, in order to promote industrial transformation between China and Europe, and jointly face the global environmental challenges.

Mr. Nicolas Chapuis, Ambassador of the EU Delegation to China, expressed his pleasure to attend the meeting. He said that the Green New Deal is a crucial development strategy of the EU, which puts environmental, economic and social sustainable development at the top of its agenda. There are a lot of cooperation opportunities between China and the EU in the field of green development and biodiversity, and the two sides will definitely further strengthen cooperation in the future.

More than 50 delegates from 40 Chinese and European institutions were invited to attend the forum and give speeches. The forum consisted of two seminars: China-EU Youth Roundtable on Green Development and the Seminar on China-EU Green Development Cooperation. The Youth Roundtable was broadcast by Ifeng.com on December 4
th. The themes of this year’s seminars were: China-EU Youth Sharing View: Way to Green Recovery; Challenges and Opportunities:Building Sino-European Green Development Youth Cooperation Partnership; China-Europe Cooperation in Post-COVID-19 Era: Boosting Innovation and Industrial Cooperation for Green Development; China and EU Carbon Neutrality Vision: Opportunities and Challenges.
