the Consortium for Mathematics and Its Applications (COMAP) has recently announced the results for MCM/ICM 2021. 72 teams from Renmin University of China were awarded, with 1 outstanding winner, 12 finalists winners, 22 meritorious winners and 37 honorable mentions. Our outstanding winner team of GUO Mengfan, REN Juncheng and LI Zhuoying from RUC School of Statistics also won the SIAM Award, which was awarded only to six of the Outstanding MCM teams. This is the first time RUC teams have won the SIAM Award. The Mathematical Contest in Modeling and the Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (MCM/ICM) is sponsored by the Consortium for Mathematics and Its Applications (COMAP). As one of the most influential international mathematical modeling competitions in the world, this year’s MCM/ICM attracted 26,112 teams from 16 countries and regions. A total of 36 teams were awarded special prizes (winning rate 0.14%), from which six teams were awarded SIAM Awards (0.02%). 163 RUC teams made up of 484 students from more than 7 schools participated the competition. Through this experience, students have gained deeper understanding of mathematics and improved their ability to apply mathematical knowledge to practical problems. RUC School of Mathematics has set up a mathematical modeling mentors group for students. Professors including HAN Litao, JIANG Hao, SONG Qijiang and LAI Xiulan provided mathematical modeling courses, summer modeling trainings, and special lectures for students interested in mathematical modeling. During the competition, RUC students worked closely as a team and achieved excellent results.
