On April 7, Gao Mingxuan Academic Museum opened in Yuhuan, Zhejiang Province. The seminar of Gao Mingxuan’s academic thought was held at the same time.

Gao Mingxuan, an honorary professor of RUC, once served as a special consultant of the Supreme People's Court. He often participated in important discussions such as drafting of relevant judicial interpretations, handling major difficult cases and the judicial system reform, where he had put forward a series of suggestions on the work of the court. In 2019, Gao Mingxuan was awarded the national honorary title of "People's Educator". In his speech last year, Gao Mingxuan said “Though I’m already this age, I will continue to serve as a guide in students’ growth.” 

After winning the title of "People's Educator", Professor Gao Mingxuan hoped to donate the important documents, manuscripts, books and cultural relics he had accumulated and collected to his home city, Yuhuan. As a result, the "Gao Mingxuan Academic Museum" was established with the joint effort of Yuhuan municipal government and Renmin University of China.

The academic museum collects and reviews the outstanding contributions made by Prof. Gao during the rule-of-law construction and discipline development in New China. The museum also displays some of his original manuscripts and notes.

At the opening ceremony, Zhang Donggang, Chairman of the University Council, said in a speech that Prof. Gao Mingxuan plays a leading role in higher education and in China’s construction of the rule of law. Zhang Donggang also said that the museum highlights the cultural context of Yuhuan City, which carries Gao Mingxuan's deep affection for his hometown and shows the noble ethics, profound academic attainments and firm belief of the "People's Educator".

Zhou Yang, Secretary of the Committee of Yuhuan City, said that Gao Mingxuan Academic Museum will function not only as a place for exchanges and discussions in the legal circle, but also as a new landmark to the city in terms of high-quality development. Yuhuan City will organize various kinds of discussions and inter-museum cooperation in the future and actively carry out academic research, legal education and other activities so as to build the venue into a platform with national influence.

The International Association of Penal Law and the Macau Criminal Law Research Institute also congratulated on the opening of the museum.

Prof. Gao Mingxuan expressed gratitude to the Yuhuan municipal government and staff members, as well as his mother school, Renmin University of China, where he studied and worked for 70 years. He also thanked the China Association of Criminal Law, which began to prepare for the opening since the end of last year. He then expressed appreciation to his students, saying that they’ve made outstanding contributions in their fields and he was proud of them.

Prof. Gao expressed his hope after the opening ceremony that the museum should uphold the "principle of public benefit", contribute to the construction of the rule of law in Yuhuan, promote law education for young people and play a role in the development of national and international academic exchanges in law.

On the afternoon of April 7th, the seminar of Gao Mingxuan's academic thought was held, where representatives of various universities expounded his academic thoughts from different perspectives.
