In order to promote the national reading campaign and provide extensive reading activities for students, RUC initiated the reading month on April 10 on eve of the 28th "World Book and Copyright Day”. Lin Shangli, President of RUC, attended the launching ceremony and delivered a speech. Hu Baijing, RUC Vice President, attended and presided over the ceremony. Leaders from the Academic Affairs Office, Library, School of Liberal Arts and other schools, as well as representatives of teachers and students also attended the ceremony.
Lin Shangli pointed out in his speech that building a learning society and a learning country has become a national strategy, with reading being an important ladder, strength and reserve for the growth of a person, a society and even a country. The theme of this reading month, namely "Mutual Completion of Knowledge and Morality", enlightens us that one should grow to be a well-rounded person.
Vice President Hu Baijing said that a series of activities under the reading month aim to help students acquire knowledge and enlighten insights. We should not only regard reading as knowledge acquisition, but also as a part of life. He hopes that all relevant units in the school work together to implement the reading plan and all teachers and students actively participate in reading activities.
Yang Huilin, Professor from the School of Liberal Arts, shared his understanding and insights about reading. He believes that the reading plan has a very good idea and hopes that students will gain something and achieve something in this activity.
At the ceremony, Wu Jian, Director of the Office of Academic Affairs, announced the list of the first batch of ten reading projects, and Liu Houbin, Director of RUC Library, announced the winners of “Star Reader”, “Library Lover” and the essay contest.
Student representative Zhou Xinqi mentioned that his experiences in RUC Library, like recommending favorite book resources for procurement and receiving long-reserved materials from librarians, constituted his own memory of the library.
The reading month activities are jointly held by the Academic Affairs Office and the School of Liberal Arts. Participants ranging from undergraduate students, librarians to senior professors and school leaders discussed their reading methods and experiences, which expanded the influence of the promotion of library resources and services.
