On the afternoon of April 4th, Hu Baijing, Vice president of Renmin University of China (RUC) met with Susanna Leong,Vice Provost of National University of Singapore (NUS).
Hu Baijing extended a warm welcome to the visiting delegation led by Professor Susanna Leong and introduced the educational features and disciplinary advantages of RUC.
“Talent is the most significant standard to evaluate the world-class university. RUC devotes itself todeveloping asa world-class university, cultivating excellent talents and pooling outstanding scholars”, said Hu Baijing,“Over Recent years, RUC has kept innovative mind in education. We would like to work withNUS in continuing educationand press ahead with the innovativeeducational development with global perspective.”
Susanna Leong said she was glad to pay a visit to RUC and thanked Hu Baijing for sharing valuable insights. She emphasized that talent is the most crucial resource in Singapore, and adaptability is vital to nurturing talent in present times. To prepare students to adjust quickly to a rapidly changing society, NUS has reformed its educational model, strengthened general education, and set up pillar courses such as critical expression, cultural communication, national education, data literacy, digital literacy, and community participation.NUS emphasizes interdisciplinary integration, cross-fertilization between humanities and natural sciences, and lifelong education.Leong highlighted the striking parallels in the academic philosophy betweenNUS andRUC, and aspired to expand thecooperation in talent cultivation and academic exchanges.
Both sides agreed to build a stronger partnership by leveraging respective academic strengths, deepening cooperation so as to provide tangible benefits to the faculty and students.
During the visit,Susanna Leong and her delegation visited RUC Museum and viewed the sand table model of RUC’s Tongzhou Campus.
Representatives from various departments attended the meeting, including Graduate School, Academic Affairs Office, International Office, School of Journalism and Communication, School of Business, School of Mathematics, and School of Continuing Education.
