RUC Hosts “10th Anniversary of BRI: Achievements and Future” International Academic Forum

Renmin University of China (RUC) hosted the “10th Anniversary of BRI: Achievements and Future” International Academic Forum recently, aimed to explore the accomplishments and future potential of BRI. 

 

The forum brought together over 150 distinguished participants, including political leaders, university heads, and expert scholars from 13 countries and 68 institutions.

 

The opening ceremony featured prominent figures such as Zhang Donggang, Chair of the University Council; Sun Zhuangzhi, Director of the Institute of Russian, Eastern European, and Central Asian Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; Sergey Glazyev, Minister of Integration and Macroeconomics of the Eurasian Economic Commission and former economic adviser to the President of Russia; and Abdraeva Aigul, President of Kyrgyzstan National University.

 

Zhang Donggang remarked that the initiative has evolved from a concept into international practice and become a prominent platform for global cooperation over the past decade.

 

Sun Zhuangzhi pointed out that BRI has adapted to the characteristics of different regions and stages, offering a unique model of international cooperation. It aligns with the requirements of global governance reform, reflects the idea of a shared future for mankind, and provides innovative solutions for global governance reform.

 

Sergey Glazyev noted that BRI has become a driving force for international economic cooperation, surpassing the financial cooperation of international organizations like the World Bank.

 

Abdraeva Aigul emphasized that BRI has emerged as the world’s largest international cooperation platform, with Central Asia experiencing a growing interest in Chinese culture and language.

 

Keynote speakers included Deputy Director Tian Dewen from the Institute of Russian, Eastern European, and Central Asian Studies, CASS; Yang Guangbin, Dean of RUC’s School of International Studies; and Eldor Tulyakov, Director of the Development Strategy Center of Uzbekistan.

 

During the plenary and sub-forum sessions that followed, participants engaged in discussions on various themes such as “History and the Present: A Decade of BRI",  “Initiative and Ideas: The Development of BRI and a Community with a Shared Future for mankind,” “Practice and Development: Connectivity, Green Development, and Cultural Cooperation of BRI,” among others.

 

The closing remarks were delivered by Gao Jingzhai from the Institute of Russian, Eastern European, and Central Asian Studies, CASS, and Zhang Xiaojing, from the School of International Studies, RUC. They emphasized the need for BRI research and consensus to ensure the initiative’s steady progress in the coming years.

 

The forum was jointly organized by RUC’s School of International Studies and the Institute of Russian, Eastern European, and Central Asian Studies, CASS, with support from the BRI Research Center, CASS, the Belt and Road Green Development Research Institute at the China International Cultural Exchange Center, and the Science and Innovation Policy Research Center at Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
