On November 26th, the Strategic Consultation on Ecological Asset Management and Chinese Modernization opened in Nanping City, Fujian Province. Hosted by Renmin University of China (RUC) and Nanping Municipal Government of Fujian Province and organized by School of Environment & Natural Resources of RUC, the Institute of Ecological Civilization of RUC, and Development and Reform Commission of Nanping, the conference was successfully held. The conference is themed on "Ecological Asset Management and Chinese Modernization", which aims at discussing the experience of China's practice in ecological asset management. Renmin University of China also released the "China Urban Ecological Asset Management Index of 2023" in this conference.
Lin Ruiliang, Vice Governor of Fujian Province, Lin Shangli, President of RUC, Lin Jian, Mayor of Nanping, and Zhu Xinkai, Vice President of RUC attended the opening ceremony. More than 120 people attended the conference, including leaders from Fujian Province, Nanping City and Renmin University of China, experts and scholars from domestic higher education institutions and research institutes as well as university students. Zhu Xinkai, Vice President of Renmin University of China, presided over the opening ceremony and the main forum.
Yuan Chaohong, Secretary of Nanping Municipal Party Committee, said in his speech that Nanping will work closely with Renmin University of China to focus on the theory and practice of ecological civilization construction in China in the next 20 years. Under the background of "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality", Nanping will join hands with RUC to seek new ideas and approaches on further turning ecological resources into ecological assets and ecological value into economic value, thus promoting green and high-quality development and realizing common prosperity.
Lin Ruiliang mentioned in his speech that RUC has long been concerned about and supported the economic and social development of Fujian and the construction of ecological civilization. This conference offers a platform to exchange ideas and promote the construction of ecological civilization so as to better support and serve the Chinese modernization. Thoughtful, strategic, policy-oriented results are expected in the forums. At the same time, it is hoped that RUC and other universities and research institutions, and Fujian Province can have in-depth exchanges and cooperation in science and technology innovation, talent training, industrial docking and other aspects.
Lin Shangli said that Fujian has achieved effective results in building itself into a ecological province. Nanping is rich in ecological resources and therefore, Renmin University of China will join hands with Fujian Province and Nanping City to contribute more to promote the construction of ecological civilization in the new journey of national construction and national rejuvenation.
Yu Xinrong, Director-general of China Agricultural Green Development Research Society and former Vice Minister of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, delivered a keynote speech on the topic of "Promoting Agricultural Green Development and Strengthening Science, Technology and Management Innovation of Agricultural-ecological Assets".
Yin Weilun, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, former president of Beijing Forestry University and director of the Academic Committee of the Institute of Ecological Civilization of RUC, delivered a keynote speech on the topic of "The Construction and Development of China's National Parks and the Demand for the Support of Integration of Ecology and Humanities and Sociology".
Ouyang Zhiyun, a researcher at the Center for Ecological and Environmental Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, gave a keynote speech on the topic of "Accounting and Application of Gross Ecological Product (GEP) ".
Lan Siren, President of Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, member of the Department of Agriculture and Forestry of the Science and Technology Commission of the Ministry of Education, and leading talent in science and technology innovation in Fujian Province, delivered a keynote speech on the topic of "Exploration and Practice of Fujian in the Form of Realizing the Value of Ecological Products".
At the main forum, Pang Jun, dean of School of Environment & Natural Resources of Renmin University of China, released the Chinese Urban Ecological Asset Management Index of 2023 on behalf of RUC. The index is compiled for 337 cities at or above prefecture level in China. Initial results have been achieved in China's urban ecological asset management, pointed put by Pang Jun, but there are still problems such as spatial mismatch between ecological resource endowment and government ecological governance capacity. Cities need to further strengthen the top-level design and improve the level of ecological asset management according to local conditions.
Four forums were held to discuss "Ecological Asset Management and National Park Construction", "Ecological Asset Management and Ecological Product Value Realization", "Ecological Asset Management and Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality", and "Ecological Asset Management and Rural Revitalization". A total of 50 renowned experts in this field were invited to participate in the seminar.
A report session was also held on November 27th to exchange views on the results of the forum, and a thematic report on the think tank was formed.
