With the theme of “China’s Economy and High-Quality
Development”, the fifth academic annual conference on China’s Applied Economics
was co-hosted by Renmin University of China (RUC) and Zhejiang University of
Finance & Economics (ZUFE) on Apr.13th -14th.
Guided by the Applied Economics Subject Review
Group of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee, the conference was held
in Hangzhou, Zhejiang.
More than 300 people participated in the conference,
including members from the subject review group, leaders from RUC and ZUFE and
experts in applied economics.
Zheng Xinye, Vice President of RUC, expressed
sincere congratulations on the opening forum. He pointed out that the
conference was of great significance and appropriateness, providing profound academic
insights for China’s economy. Zheng anticipated that universities and scholars
could make more contributions to the development of new quality productive
forces, and better serve China’s modernization.
Professor Wu Xiaoqiu, former Vice President of RUC, delivered a speech entitled “Research on Valuation Differences in Global Capital Market and Chinese Element Valuation System”, in which he deeply discussed the theoretical and practical issues of capital market valuation, especially the deep-seated reasons why the valuation of China’s capital market is generally lower than that of developed countries. Wu advocated for reforms and deep understanding of market rules to enhance confidence in the capital market. He emphasizes that the capital market is an important engine for building a strong economy.
Li Jinchang, Chair of the University Council of ZUFE, expressed welcome on behalf of the host to all the participants. Li expressed their willing to take this annual conference as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation among academic institutions.
Lv Wei, representative of the Subject Review Group of Applied Economics, congratulated on the convening of the conference. He pointed out that applied economics has a promising potential to further boost prosperity of high-quality development.
Gao Peiyong, former Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, delivered a keynote speech on “Focusing on the Profound Changes in Macroeconomic Governance”, discussing the necessity of deepening reforms in key areas. He urged economists to jump out of the conventional mindsets and revisit macroeconomic governance strategies.
After the Opening, the annual conference continuously featured five segments: a prelude forum, the Qiantang night talk, president's forum, main forum, and thematic forums.
