The 5th Regional Economics Scholars Forum was held at RUC

On June 22, the 5th Regional Economics Scholars Forum, co-hosted by the School of Applied Economics of RUC and the Economic Research Journal, was held at RUC.


This forum focused on important topics such as coordinated regional development, new-quality productive forces, and the digital economy, aiming to provide theoretical support and policy references for the in-depth implementation of the coordinated regional development strategy, and to accelerate the construction of the applied economics knowledge system.

Zhi Xiaoqiang,Vice President of RUC, and Jin Chengwu, Director of the Editorial Department of "Economic Research", delivered speeches at the opening ceremony.

Zhi Xiaoqiang said that this forum invited leading figures and young scholars in the field of regional economics in China to discuss the development of China's regional economy, which was of great significance for promoting the development of the regional economics discipline. He hoped that academic colleagues will adhere to problem-oriented approaches and research major issues of coordinated regional development, thus continuously improving the modernization level of the regional economics discipline.

Jin Chengwu, on behalf of the Editorial Department of "Economic Research," expressed welcome and gratitude to the arrival of experts and scholars, and also thanked the School of Applied Economics of RUC for its hard work in convening this forum. He expressed that this forum looks forward to experts and scholars to engage in in-depth and extensive discussions around the important issues of the current regional economic discipline, and focus on practical problems that need to be solved urgently.


The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Chen Zhanming, Deputy Dean of the School of Applied Economics of RUC.

The keynote report session was presided over by Professor Liang Qi from the Center for Industrial and Regional Development Research of Sun Yat-sen University and Dean Zhang Xueliang from the School of Urban and Regional Science of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics.

Keynote speeches were given by officials and professors from the government, research institutes, and universities, with topics including "The main goals, difficulties, and related suggestions of China's coordinated regional development," "Research on regional economics facing new-quality productive forces," "The theoretical deepening of coordinated regional development," and "The evolution of the economic development gap between the north and south of ancient China and its coordination."

This forum received a total of 234 papers, and 58 papers were preliminarily screened by the organizing committee for the anonymous review process. Subsequently, the organizing committee invited well-known regional economists in China to form a paper review committee, and carried out anonymous review by combining grading and scoring, ultimately selecting 22 papers for reporting and discussion in the parallel forums of this forum.

Experts and scholars in the parallel forums discussed around five major themes: coordinated regional development and urban-rural integration, development of new-quality productive forces according to local conditions and high-quality development of regional economy, regional economic theory and policy innovation in the digital economy era, assessment of the implementation effects of regional policies, and green and low-carbon transformation of regional economy and the national unified large market.


The Regional Economics Scholars Forum is committed to providing a high-level academic exchange platform for the latest frontier and outstanding research achievements in the field of regional economics in China, and to accelerating the construction of the three major systems of Chinese economics and the independent applied economics knowledge system of China. After discussion by all initiating units, it was decided that the next forum will be held at the National Development and Policy Research Institute of Southeast University.
