IPU President and Tanzanian National Assembly Speaker Tulia Ackson Visited RUC

Wang Yi, Vice President of Renmin University of China (RUC), warmly welcomed Tulia Ackson, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and Speaker of the Tanzanian National Assembly, during her official visit to China on the afternoon of Aug. 17th.


During the meeting, Wang Yi introduced the university’s rich history, academic strengths, and notable achievements. He highlighted that RUC is the first modern university established by the Communist Party of China, contributing significantly to the development and prosperity of the country’s philosophy and social sciences.

Wang Yi emphasized the university’s commitment to fostering cooperative exchanges with Tanzania. He recalled the visit of Daniel Chongolo, Secretary-General of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), Tanzania’s ruling party, to RUC in 2023, during which both parties jointly initiated the construction of the "Renmin University of China – Nyerere Leadership Academy Library." He also mentioned multiple delegations from the university visiting Tanzania to share insights on the theories and development of the Communist Party of China and to assess the progress of the Nyerere Leadership Academy.

Introducing the university’s "Qiushi Scholars" program, Wang Yi expressed hope for establishing friendly ties with the IPU and the Tanzanian National Assembly to collaboratively nurture young talent. He invitatedd to more young officials from the Tanzanian National Assembly, as well as scholars and students from Tanzania, to participate in study and exchange programs at RUC.

Tulia Ackson expressed her gratitude for RUC’s longstanding support of the Nyerere Leadership Academy and provided an overview of the IPU and the Tanzanian National Assembly’s recent initiatives. She acknowledged the deep-rooted friendship and close high-level exchanges between Tanzania and China, expressing a strong desire to deepen cooperation with RUC. Ackson emphasized the importance of promoting exchanges among young students from both countries and jointly cultivating outstanding talents to further enhance mutual understanding and drive shared development.

Following the meeting, Ackson and her delegation visited the Law School of RUC, engaging in discussions with faculty and student representatives. Wang Yi provided insights into the Law School’s academic programs, scholarly advancements, and student development efforts. Ackson commended the Law School’s exceptional achievements in legal education and its significant contributions to society. She encouraged faculty and students to uphold the school’s proud traditions and strive for greater accomplishments in academic research and the advancement of the rule of law.

During their visit, Ackson and her delegation also toured the exhibition titled "Exemplary Model of a New-Type Regular University Founded by the Communist Party of China," which showcases the university’s historical journey, as well as a detailed model of the upcoming Tongzhou Campus.
