On December 16th, the annual event of Social Sciences Universities Network (SSUN) – Forum on Olympic Education 2021 was held both online and offline at Renmin University of China (RUC). Themed on “Sharing, Education and the Future”, the forum was co-hosted by RUC and Luiss University under the framework of SSUN. It was organized by Humanistic Bejing (Humanistic Olympic) Studies Centre of RUC, and supported by the university’s International Office and PE Department. Two sub-forums focusing on “Olympic Culture Sharing and Education” and “The Prospects and Future of the Olympics” were also held.
Maria Bogner, Director of IOC Olympic Research Center, Prof. Liu Wei, President of RUC, Andrea Prencipe, Rector of Luiss University and other guests attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Prof. Feng Huiling, Director of Humanistic Beijing (Humanistic Olympic) Studies Centre made a keynote speech. The opening ceremony was hosted by Prof. Du Peng, Vice President of RUC. Some 200 people including experts, scholars and students from Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, Beijing Sport University, Capital Institute of Physical Education and SSUN attended the meeting.
President Prof. Liu Wei noted in his speech that it was just the time to interact with the international sport world to discuss on these topics and contribute wisdom to the sport-education integration as 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games was about to start.
RUC is committed to leveraging its own strengths in humanities and social sciences to promote the Olympic spirit and support Beijing in holding the Summer and Winter Olympics. In 2000, Humanistic Olympic Studies Centre was established as an effort to better serve the city’s Olympic events. Besides, we are a main contributor of volunteers with over 1000 faculty members and students serving the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games.
Prof. Feng Huiling reviewed the contributions made by RUC in supporting Beijing’s Olympic events over the past 21 years. She also introduced major works and researches carried out by Humanistic Beijing (Humanistic Olympic) Studies Centre.
Professors and experts from Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, Capital Institute of Physical Education, George Washington University, Luiss University, National Research University Higher School of Economics, Stellenbosch University, Koc University, etc. addressed at the two sub-forums.
