Sun Haowen, 2019 Viola major, Department of Music Performance, Renmin University of China (RUC) School of Arts won the First Prize of the Youth Group of the 30th International Music Competition Salzburg “Grand Prize Virtuoso”. The instructor is Associate Professor Qi Yue.
The 30th International Music Competition Salzburg “Grand Prize Virtuoso” was held in July, 2021 at Salzburg, a world-famous city of music, and hometown of the renowned Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Hundreds of high-level contestants from over 70 countries and regions took part in the competition online where Sun Haowen stood out and won the first prize.
Sun Haowen was later invited by the organizing committee of the competition to play in the concert for winners at Mozart Concert Hall, Salzburg, Austria, and to attend the Award Ceremony.
Brief Introduction of the Prize Winner:
Sun Haowen was enrolled in the Department of Music Performance, RUC School of Arts in 2019, studying under Associate Prof. Qi Yue. He won the First Prize of the Closing Concert of Chongli Cadenza Viola Festival, and was admitted with excellent results by Youth Music Culture Guangdong (YMCG) and “Seiji Ozawa Ongaku-juku” established by the world-famous Japanese conductor Seiji Ozawa. Sun successfully held his first solo concert at the Music Hall of RUC School of Arts on November 6th, 2019. He was admitted by NYO-China in 2020. In the Viola Open Competition of the Seventh Hong Kong International Music Festival held in August the same year, he won the champion, and was invited by China Symphony Orchestra in November to play in a concert conducted by the renowned Chinese conductor Li Xincao.
