On November 14, the Second Global South Think Tanks Dialogue, themed “Equality, Openness, and Cooperation for the Global South,” commenced in Nanjing.
The Global South Think Tanks Alliance was inaugurated by the International Department of the Central Committee of CPC, in collaboration with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences(CASS), China Media Group(CMG), Renmin University of China(RUC), along with over 200 think tanks and universities worldwide. Over 400 representatives from think tanks, and universities of emerging markets and developing countries, including Brazil, Russia, India, South Africa, and Egypt, participated in the event. Chen Zhou, Chairman of the China Council for BRICS Think-tank Cooperation, presided over the opening ceremony.
Zhang Donggang, Chair of RUC University Council, delivered a keynote speech. He emphasized that this year marks a fruitful year for “Global South” cooperation and a new start for unity among Asia, Africa, and Latin America. He also stated that RUC has injected strong momentum into building a community with a shared future for mankind and enriching new forms of human civilization. The university will continue to work with all parties to build the Global South Think Tanks Alliance, promoting unity and development, and leading in cultural exchanges, contributing wisdom and strength to the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind and the advancement of human modernization.
Xu Qinhua, Deputy Dean of National Academy of Development and Strategy (NADS) at RUC, spoke at a sub-forum themed “Deepening Cultural Exchanges and Promoting Common Progress”. She highlighted the university's efforts in cultural-ethical and ecological advancement to promote exchanges and mutual learning between China and other Global South countries. Xu also emphasized the importance of an open and inclusive attitude, leveraging strengths, integrating innovation, and reaching consensus to promote collective progress among all Global South countries.
RUC has been gathering collective wisdom and strength to promote a community with a shared future for mankind. It has established global dialogue platforms and partnerships with 316 universities and international organizations in 61 countries and regions. In addition, RUC founded the first School of Global Leadership in Chinese universities, and proposed original concepts such as “Seven Actions for Implementing Global Development Initiatives” and “Comprehensive Development Goals 2050”.
It is the historical mission of Global South countries to pursue modernization and a more just and reasonable international order in the context of profound changes unseen in a century. RUC will take the establishment of the Global South Think Tanks Alliance as an opportunity to conduct in-depth discussions and build consensus with all parties, and thus promote the Global South countries as a stable force in maintaining peace, open development, global governance, and mutual understanding of civilizations.
