On the afternoon of November 24, a Nauruan media delegation visited Renmin University of China (RUC) and held talks with faculty members of the School of Journalism and Communication, discussing potential opportunities for future collaboration. The delegation was led by Kaelyn Dekarube, Secretary of Nauru Media, and consisted of 21 members.
During the visit, the Nauruan media
delegation first toured the university museum, where they learned about the
history of the university’s development and appreciated historical artifacts
and artworks on display. The delegation then engaged in a discussion with
faculty members from the School of Journalism and Communication.
At the meeting, Kaelyn Dekarube introduced
the delegation members and provided an overview of the development of Nauru’s journalism
and communication industry. She expressed gratitude to China and conveyed a
desire for future exchanges and cooperation with Chinese institutions and
universities in areas such as media personnel education and professional skills
training.
Liu
Yutong, Counselor of the Department of Press, Communication and Public
Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
spoke at the meeting, expressing appreciation for the contributions made by RUC’s
School of Journalism and Communication in promoting China-Nauru friendship and
deepening cooperation in media and journalism education. This delegation is the
first media group from Nauru to visit China since the reestablishment of
diplomatic ties between the two countries, marking an important step in media
cooperation and cultural exchange. Liu emphasized that RUC’s School of
Journalism and Communication plays a significant role in China’s journalism and
communication education and has established stable partnerships with renowned
journalism schools worldwide. He expressed hope for further strengthening
cooperation and exchanges with Nauru’s media sector in the future.
Professor Zhang Huifeng, Party Secretary of
the School of Journalism and Communication, warmly welcomed the Nauru
delegation and introduced the history, disciplinary development, and
educational programs of the school. He pointed out that after nearly 70 years
of development, the school has become a leader in the reform and innovation of
China’s journalism and communication education, as well as an important
platform for international exchanges and cooperation in global journalism
education. Zhang expressed hope for future exchanges and cooperation with Nauru
in the field of media education.
During the meeting, Professor Zhong Xin
from the School of Journalism and Communication engaged in discussions with the
delegation on topics such as the media industry structure, development plans,
media professionals, and audience demographics in Nauru.
Finally, Professor Yan Yan, Deputy Party
Secretary of the school, introduced the “Foreign Journalists Training Program”,
which was initiated by the China Public Diplomacy Association (CDPA) and was organized
by RUC’s School of Journalism and Communication for the past 10 years. She also
introduced the school’s English-language programs and the “Mingxin
International Visiting Journalists” program, inviting Nauru students and media
professionals to apply for participation.
