About the speaker:
Marta Betanzos Roig arrived in
Beijing in February 2024, becoming the first female ambassador appointed by
Spain to China. Betanzos, who officially launched her diplomatic career in
October 1986, has held a number of important positions, including Spain's first
ambassador to the Republic of Mali, Spain's permanent representative to the
Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, and advisor to Spain's
permanent representation to the United Nations. She also served as Deputy Chief
of Mission at the Spanish Embassy in Tripoli (Libya) and at the Spanish Embassy
in China. At the European Union level, Betanzos has held several advisory and
coordination positions related to migration matters, including Deputy Director
General of the European Commission's internal department.
