On November 3rd, the 6th "Qiushi Forum" on Gerontology and Geriatric Health was held. The forum was jointly organized by the Beijing Society of Gerontology and Geriatric Health, the Beijing Elderly Industry Association, the Capital Development and Strategic Research Institute of RUC (hereinafter referred to as "the First Release Institute"), and the School of Population and Health at RUC.

Attending and delivering speeches were Lin Shangli, President of RUC, Sui Zhenjiang, President of the Beijing Elderly Industry Association, Wang Shaozhong, President of the China Society of Gerontology and Geriatrics, and Liu Juncai, Director of the Beijing Municipal Health Commission. The forum's opening ceremony was presided over by Feng Shizheng, Vice President of RUC.

Scholars and experts from universities such as Peking University, RUC, Nankai University, and the Capital University of Physical Education, as well as relevant persons in charge from government departments and industry associations, and representatives from the rehabilitation and health industry in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region attended the conference.

Lin Shangli, President of RUC, pointed out that population aging and its response are common human development issues faced by the world in the 21st century. RUC is the birthplace of modern demography and gerontology in China. In 2003, the university officially established the first gerontology major in colleges and universities nationwide, ushering in the era of formal gerontological education in China.

He expressed that the forum gathered the wisdom and strength of various sectors such as politics, industry, academia, and research, hoping to focus on strengthening strategic guidance and implementing the national strategy for actively responding to population aging. The forum aims to explore innovative theories, scientific decision-making, and practical strategies for actively responding to population aging. RUC is willing to work with all parties to continue to deepen exchanges and cooperation, strengthen research in gerontology and geriatric health, and promote the construction of a healthy and vibrant aging society.

Sui Zhenjiang, President of the Beijing Elderly Industry Association, pointed out that with the structural transformation of the elderly population and the increasing maturity of policy environment and market conditions, the elderly industry and silver economy are entering a new stage where opportunities and challenges coexist. He hopes that all parties will leverage their respective advantages, continuously deepen cooperation, summarize experiences in a timely manner, and conduct in-depth research on innovative measures and typical cases in the experimental development of the elderly industry in the capital, striving to form a batch of good experiences and practices that can be promoted, contributing Beijing's wisdom and strength to the construction of a healthy and vibrant aging society.

Wang Shaozhong, President of the China Society of Gerontology and Geriatrics, expressed the hope that the Beijing Society of Gerontology and Geriatric Health will fully leverage the advantages of expert resources, continue to strengthen academic research, policy suggestions, industrial services, and scientific popularization, and play a leading, exemplary, and exemplary role among aging academic institutions in various provinces, cities, and districts across the country.

Liu Juncai, Director of the Beijing Municipal Health Commission, stated that through extensive and in-depth exchanges, it is hoped to further improve the Beijing wisdom and practical plans for promoting high-quality population development, gather the strength of all parties, and jointly build a vibrant and healthy aging society in the capital.

Zhang Jie, Huang Shisong, and Hao Zhilan, representing the First Release Institute, the Beijing Society of Gerontology and Geriatric Health, and the Beijing Elderly Industry Association, respectively, signed the "Capital Active Response to Population Aging" Industry-Academia-Research-Application Integration Cooperation Framework Agreement.

At the conference, relevant experts and scholars gave keynote speeches on the themes of "Practice and Exploration of Beijing's Construction of Elderly Health Service System," "Development Trends and Strategic Opportunities of the Silver Economy," "Elderly Education Empowering a Vibrant and Healthy Aging Society," and "Integration of Sports and Medicine for the Development of the Silver Economy." Huang Shisong presided over the keynote speech session.

In the roundtable forum session, experts on elderly health care work from the government, enterprises, and universities exchanged views on regional elderly care, grassroots medical and elderly care integration, diversified elderly services, and talent training for elderly service. The session was chaired by Zhang Wenjuan, a professor at the School of Population and Health at RUC.

The "Qiushi Forum" was founded in August 2019, with the Beijing Society of Gerontology and Geriatric Health as the main initiator, focusing on major theoretical issues in the construction of gerontology and geriatric health disciplines, and conducting exchanges and discussions in conjunction with the implementation of the national strategy for actively responding to population aging and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei coordinated development strategy. The First Release Institute, established in 2016, is an independent non-profit entity research institution built by integrating high-quality think tank resources of RUC and is one of the first 14 pilot units for the construction of high-end think tanks in the capital.
