On the afternoon of November 11th, Zhi Xiaoqiang, Vice President of RUC, met with Fabrizio Hochschild, former Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and Chief Global Governance and Leadership Advisor of the Global Leadership Development Council, and Janos Pasztor, former Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Chief Climate Change Governance Advisor of the Global Youth Leadership Development Council, along with their delegation.
Zhi Xiaoqiang, Vice President of RUC, pointed out that the world today is facing increasingly complex issues such as climate change and transnational conflicts, which has led to an urgent demand for high-end talents with a global perspective and cross-cultural capabilities. RUC has always adhered to the purpose of serving national and global development, and is committed to cultivating a new generation of youth with global leadership and governance capabilities. In recent years, the university has actively constructed a multi-level international education system, combining classroom learning with practical training, encouraging students to pay attention to and participate in the research and resolution of global issues, thereby enhancing their ability to deal with complex international situations.
Zhi mentioned that the cultivation of international organization talents must be combined with practical experience, involving all stakeholders in the talent cultivation process, effectively promoting the high-quality development of international organization talents, and building international talents that meet the needs of the times in all aspects. RUC will continue to strengthen cooperation with the United Nations and other international organizations, actively innovate teaching models, and contribute more Chinese wisdom to the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind.
Hochschild, former Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations stated that the international situation is changing rapidly, and the importance of international cooperation is becoming increasingly prominent. As an important force in global governance, China bears the responsibility of cultivating talents with a global sense of responsibility and adaptability to multiculturalism for the world.
Besides, Hochschild expressed his expectation that RUC will continue to lead innovation in the cultivation of international organization talents, integrate Chinese wisdom and perspectives into the international organization system through closer cooperation, and participate in global governance in a broader way. He hopes to deepen the connection with RUC in scientific research and project cooperation, provide more practical opportunities for young scholars, enhance their practical capabilities in international affairs, and better adapt to future international governance needs.
During the meeting, both sides conducted in-depth exchanges on innovative models for the cultivation of international organization talents and the potential for research cooperation. They also discussed building joint scientific research projects and cooperative research platforms, providing students with opportunities to participate in international organization affairs during their studies, helping them enhance cross-cultural communication and practical skills, and better adapt to future international governance needs.
Accompanying the visit were personnel from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and Leadership Center, and the Global Youth Leadership Development Council. Responsible persons from the University's Youth League Committee, School of Foreign Languages, Institute of Regional and Country Studies, International Communication and International Competence Language Center, and School of Ecological Environment participated in the meeting.
After the meeting, Fabrizio Hochschild and Janos Pasztor gave lectures on the theme of "Achieving and Responding to Sustainable Development Goals and Climate Change," and conducted in-depth discussions with teachers and students on the specific implementation of sustainable development goals and how individuals can participate in global governance. Students from School of Global Governance attended the event.
