Speaker Bio:

Dou Zhicheng is a professor, doctoral supervisor, and the Vice Dean of the Gaoling School of Artificial Intelligence at Renmin University of China (RUC). He serves as the Secretary-General of the China Computer Federation (CCF) Expert Committee on Big Data, a council member of the Chinese Information Processing Society of China, and the Vice Chair of its Information Retrieval Committee. His primary research focuses on intelligent information retrieval, large language models, and their integration. He has received several prestigious awards, including the First Prize of the Ministry of Education’s Natural Science Award, the Best Paper Runner-Up Award at SIGIR 2013, the Paper Award Nominations of TheWebConf 2023, the Best Paper Award at AIRS 2012, and the Best Paper Awards at CCIR 2018 and CCIR 2021. He has also served as the program co-chair (Short) of SIGIR 2019 and NTCIR-16.

Abstract:

With rapid advancements in technology, artificial intelligence has evolved from an abstract concept into a tangible reality. No longer confined to the realm of science fiction, AI now plays a role in everyday life—as a security guard verifying identities at school gates, a teacher answering academic questions, a salesperson behind online shopping recommendations, or an opponent in gaming battles. AI has deeply integrated into our daily lives. As a strategic technology leading the new wave of scientific and industrial revolutions, artificial intelligence is set to profoundly transform how we live and work, disrupting and reshaping traditional patterns of social development. This talk will provide an overview of AI’s historical evolution, recent groundbreaking advancements, and key technological trends. Additionally, it will address the challenges posed by AI and offer insights into learning and using AI effectively.
