On the morning of February 21, Zhang Donggang, Secretary of the CPC Committee of Renmin University of China,leddelegationtovisit Tsinghua University for research. Both parties had an in-depth exchange on advancing the new engineering discipline, the construction of new disciplines and other areas of cooperation.

Zhang Donggang stated that Tsinghua University, as one of China’s prestigious higher education institutions, has always upheld the spirit of its motto "Self-discipline and Social Commitment." Currently, Renmin University of China is vigorously strengthening the organic integration and cross-disciplinary collaboration among the "Five New Disciplines" — new humanities, new science, new engineering, new agriculture, and new medicine. Zhang expressed hope that the two universities could strengthen cooperation in advancing the planning and development of new disciplines, conduct student exchanges, and mutual credit recognition, to push forward the construction of a world-class university with Chinese characteristics, contributing to the overall advancement of Chinese path to modernization through education.

Qiu Yong, Secretary of the CPC Tsinghua University Committee, stated that Renmin University of China has trained a large number of outstanding talents for the development ofChina. Over the years, Tsinghua University and Renmin University of China, located close to each other, have maintained close communication, mutual respect, and cooperation, and have established a strong friendship. Particularly in recent years, the two universities have had increasingly frequent and in-depth exchanges in talent cultivation, scientific research cooperation, and academic exchange. Qiu expressed hope that the two universities would continue to advance together, expand cooperation in more fields, improve communication mechanisms, complement each other's disciplinary strengths, and promote the development of new productive forces.

During the visit, Zhang Donggang and his delegation visited the Laboratory of Imaging and Intelligent Technology and the Center for Intelligent Autonomous Systems, and learned about the disciplinary development of the Department of Automation at Tsinghua University.

Before the meeting, both parties held a discussion on advancing the construction of new engineering disciplines.
