On February 25, 2025, Lin Shangli, President of Renmin University of China (RUC), met with Jürg Burri, Ambassador of Switzerland to China, Mongolia, and North Korea, to discuss deepening bilateral educational cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.
During the meeting, President Lin highlighted the longstanding and multifaceted relationship between China and Switzerland. He noted that RUC has maintained robust partnerships with Swiss institutions such as the University of Geneva, University of St. Gallen, and Swiss Graduate School of Public Administration through collaborative initiatives in international Chinese education, business administration, public policy, law, and music arts. "We look forward to expanding cooperation in education and cultural exchanges," President Lin stated. "We warmly welcome more Swiss students and scholars to study at RUC, fostering enduring contributions to the development of Sino-Swiss relations."
Ambassador Burri emphasized that 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Switzerland and China, underscoring the deepening bilateral ties over decades. As a witness to this friendship, he pledged to strengthen academic exchanges between young scholars and advance practical collaboration in higher education. "Switzerland is committed to elevating our strategic partnership to new heights across all fields," he remarked.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Sebastian Kempf, Attacher at the Swiss Embassy in China, alongside representatives from RUC’s Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies and the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange.
Following the meeting, Ambassador Burri delivered a keynote speech titled "The Sino-Swiss Innovation Strategic Partnership" at the RDCY Regional and Country Forum’s "Ambassador Lecture Series". The event drew participation from faculty and students of RUC, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and representatives from foreign banks and financial institutions in China.
This engagement underscores RUC’s role as a bridge for international academic dialogue and its commitment to fostering global partnerships aligned with China’s educational and diplomatic goals.
