About the Speaker:
Smail Rapic (1958— ) earned his Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Cologne, Germany, in 1997. He subsequently held academic positions at the University of Cologne (1998–2004) and the University of Copenhagen, Denmark (2005–2007). Since 2010, he has served as a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Wuppertal in Germany, specializing in practical philosophy and modern philosophy.
Professor Rapic's seminal monographs include Ethical Self-Understanding: Kierkegaard’s Debate with Kantian Ethics and Hegel’s Philosophy of Right (2007), Subjective Freedom and Social Institutions: Perspectives from Social Critical Theory in the Rousseau-Habermas-Luhmann Debate (2008), and Normativity and History: On the Apel-Habermas Controversy (2019). His edited volumes encompass Habermas and Historical Materialism (2014), Beyond Capitalism (2020), Philosophy of Nature, Social Theory, Socialism: On the Contemporary Relevance of Friedrich Engels (2022), and Friedrich Engels in the 21st Century: Reflections and Reappraisals (2022).
