Renmin University of China (RUC) held a strategic meeting to advance its multi-campus development plan on March 19. The event, presided over by RUC Council Chair Zhang Donggang and attended by RUC President Lin Shangli and Vice President Zhu Xinkai, marked a continuing dedication to RUC’s evolving strategy of growth and innovation.

The strategy aligns with national priorities and aims to integrate resources across multiple campuses while fostering reforms in education, research, and governance. Zhang Donggang emphasized the political, strategic, and developmental significance of multi-campus integration, highlighting its role in enhancing education quality, scientific innovation, and knowledge development in support of China’s modernization.

RUC has built a robust multi-campus network spanning key locations including Zhongguancun, Tongzhou, Suzhou, and Zhangzizhong Road. Future plans involve establishing new academic institutions and enhancing existing ones within in Xiong’an, Shenzhen, Yiwu, Fuzhou, Yibin, and Nanping, aligning with key national initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative, the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

President Lin Shangli noted that campus expansion is not just about construction but a transformative leap, strengthening RUC’s role in talent development, research excellence, and industry collaboration. The university is leveraging digital governance, interdisciplinary research, and resource optimization to enhance efficiency and impact.

Vice President Zhu Xinkai further detailed the preparations for the Tongzhou campus launch. He emphasized RUC’s commitment to aligning campus expansion with national strategic goals and streamlining development processes to ensure a smooth transition.

The Tongzhou campus, set to become RUC’s main campus, will be fully operational in Fall 2025, with 28 academic units and a new cohort of master’s students. The university aims to create a world-class, uniquely Chinese campus that embodies its legacy while embracing the future.

From its founding in Yan’an to its current expansion, RUC continues to evolve in tandem with national progress, shaping a new chapter in higher education with its integrated, innovative, and forward-looking multi-campus model.
