RUC to Host "Discover Chinese Wisdom" Study Tour for International Students
2025.04.10

Renmin University of China (RUC) will organize an immersive five-day study tour titled "Discover Chinese Wisdom: From Yiwu to Suzhou" from April 16 to 20, 2025. This specially designed program offers international students a unique opportunity to explore two iconic Chinese cities that embody the nation's economic vitality and cultural heritage.

The journey begins in Yiwu, Zhejiang Province, widely recognized as the world's largest small commodity market. Since China's reform and opening-up, this once modest county has transformed into a global trade hub, with its International Trade Market spanning 2.6 million square meters and offering over 2.1 million product categories. Students will witness firsthand how this city connects the world through its entrepreneurial spirit and inclusive business culture. The itinerary includes visits to local markets, interactions with merchants, and an academic seminar at RUC Belt and Road International Business School to examine Yiwu's role in global trade networks.

The tour then continues to Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, often regarded as "Venice of the East" for its exquisite classical gardens and waterways. This 2,500-year-old city, designated as a UNESCO Creative City, represents China's harmonious blend of historical preservation and modern development. Participants will explore world-renowned heritage sites including the Humble Administrator's Garden and Lingering Garden, experience the cultural treasures at Suzhou Museum, and engage with students at RUC's Suzhou Campus to discuss urban development strategies that honor traditional aesthetics.

The program is open to all registered international students at Renmin University, with priority given to those without conflicting academic schedules during the event period. Due to limited availability, interested students must complete their registration by scanning the provided QR code before April 9. Successful applicants will be notified via email by April 12.

While the university covers accommodation, domestic transportation and group meals, participants are responsible for some entrance fees to study sites (approximately 300 RMB) and personal travel insurance. It should be noted that certain fees may not be refundable if participants withdraw after confirmation. Selected students will be required to attend a pre-departure briefing on April 14 and complete a post-tour research assignment related to their observations of China's economic or cultural development.

This study tour represents an exceptional opportunity for international students to gain deeper insights into China's development model, where ancient traditions coexist with modern innovation. Participants will not only witness the country's economic achievements in Yiwu but also appreciate its cultural legacy in Suzhou, all while building meaningful connections with peers and scholars. Upon completion, students will receive a Global Competency Certificate from Renmin University, recognizing their immersive learning experience.

For more information and to apply, please scan the official QR code before April 9. Updates and additional details will be available through the university's International Students Office. This program reflects Renmin University's ongoing commitment to fostering cross-cultural understanding and providing students with transformative educational experiences that bridge classroom learning with real-world observation.
