Renmin University of China Holds First Global Alumni Conference

From May 17 to 18, Renmin University of China (RUC) successfully hosted its inaugural Global Alumni Conference under the theme “From Yan’an to the World: Legacy and Beyond.” Over 2,000 alumni representatives from 31 countries gathered to witness the launch of the nation’s first-ever foreign-related legal large model and engaged in in-depth discussions on academic development, talent cultivation, and social services.
In his opening speech, Zhang Donggang, Chair of the University Council, Renmin University of China, reflected on RUC’s illustrious journey since its founding in Yan’an, emphasizing the importance of uniting global alumni to jointly build a “New RUC.”
President Lin Shangli highlighted the RUC’s 88-year commitment to its mission of “educating talent for the Party and the nation,” urging alumni to carry forward the “red gene” and contribute to national development and human progress.
The conference marked the official debut of RUC’s self-developed foreign-related legal large model, the first of its kind in China. Integrating over 30,000 legal statutes from 24 countries, the model features core functions such as multilingual legal retrieval and legal reasoning, providing critical support for China’s foreign-related legal initiatives.
The event featured 26 thematic sessions spanning disciplines, entrepreneurship forums, and grassroots alumni growth. Distinguished alumni, including Olympic champion Chen Ruolin and former Kyrgyzstan Ambassador to China Azamat, shared their experiences. Side activities such as an alumni bazaar, international cultural festival, and tree-planting initiative further strengthened bonds among attendees.
Through academic exchanges, cultural activities, and public service programs, the conference showcased RUC’s distinctive strengths and global impact, injecting fresh momentum into its pursuit of becoming a world-class university. Moving forward, RUC will deepen collaboration with alumni worldwide to jointly chart a new chapter in its development.
