A delegation led by President CHEN Yulu visits U.S. universities

From Oct. 12 to 16, President Chen Yulu led a delegation to visit Yale University (Yale) and University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley). RUC further promoted its partnership with Yale when its 23th president, Peter Salovey was inaugurated, and sign an interscholastic cooperation agreement with UC Berkeley.
The delegation includes Zhang Xiaojing, director of International Office, Mao Jiye, deputy dean of School of Business, and Zhang Damiao of International Office, etc. Liu Chengyun attended the event at Yale, who is dean of Confucius Institute at University of Massachusetts Boston, and used to be deputy director of RUC general office.
On Oct. 13, Yale held inauguration ceremony of Peter Salovey, the University’s 23th president. President Chen, together with other 60 university presidents around the globe, was invited to attend the ceremony, witnessing President Peter Salovey’s inauguration. Before the event, President Chen gave President Salovey a present- a translation work by RUC Peer Counseling Center of
Peer Counseling: Skills and Perspectives, 2nd Ed. The book was edited by President Salovey.
In Yale University, Dean Edward A. Snyder of School of Business had a work conference with President Chen. Deputy Dean David Bach and representatives of RUC exchange students at Yale were in attendance. In the conference, Dean Snyder reported recent development and work plan of the School and Global Network for Advanced Management (GNAM). President Chen thought highly of GNAM’s cooperation form, and urged further collaboration on more innovative and pioneering projects. Student attendees reported their study at the School, holding the belief that this experience would play a very important role in their future study and career.
On Oct. 10, the delegation paid a visit to UC Berkeley. They had a meeting with Trond Petersen, deputy dean of Department of Social Sciences and professor of School of Business, and Dean Ted Huang of Extension Administration. Petersen and Huang gave an introduction to three student exchange program, and showed willingness to cooperate with RUC department of international Communication.
President Chen opined that RUC is willing to select outstanding students to study at prestigious UC Berkeley, which forms a part of RUC internationality promotion strategy. At the meantime, he expected further discussion on faculty exchange, particularly training faculty in charge of English teaching.
President Chen then met with Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost George Breslauer, UC Berkerley, and signed cooperation memo. According to the memo, two universities are able to exchange faculty, researchers and graduate students.
The memo stands as a milestone for official interscholastic cooperation relationship between RUC and UC Berkeley. In terms of RUC’s collaboration with U.S. counterparts, this also signifies a more reasonable geographical distribution and a more comprehensive disciplinary layout, which deepens RUC’s impact across the world. In addition, President Chen conversed with RUC students who now study at UC Berkeley under the patronage of presidential scholarship.
