Three RUC teams won the first prize in undergraduate mathematical modeling contest

The results for 2013 China undergraduate Mathematical Modeling contest have been announced recently. 48 teams from RUC that have been awarded, among which 3 teams got the national first prize, 5 got the national second prize, 20 got Beijing-level first prize and 20 got Beijing-level second prize. The number of RUC teams with national first prizes and the total number of awarded teams reach a record high. It shows RUC’s influence and competence in basic education of mathematics and computer.
In recent years, RUC attaches great importance to mathematical contest in modeling and technological and innovative activities. Under the leadership of Academic Affairs Office, School of Information organized the China Undergraduate Mathematical Contest based on lots of preparation including course teaching, summer vacation training, organizing the registration and competition.
RUC launches the elective course Mathematical Modeling in 2013, which roughly 250 students attended. During the summer vacation, a wide range of targeted activities such as lectures, model training and teacher reviews were organized. Meanwhile, School of Information reformed how it organized the contest. It started the Mathematical Modeling Direction Group, which Gao Jinwu took charge of, and Fu Zhongfei, Liu Gang, Huang Zhiyong, Han Litao, Wei Erling were members in. Sun Yalin and Hu Ting also helped organize and coordinate the contest. All this laid a solid foundation for RUC students’ excellent performance in the contest.
