Concordia University president visits RUC for further collaboration

On March 3, 2014, Vice President Yi Zhihong met Alan Shepard, president of Concordia University, Canada, and William Cheaib, director of its international affairs. Director Zhang Xiaojing of the International Office and Dr. Jiang Jing in charge of MBA programs attended the meeting. D16T8727  During the meeting, Vice President Yi Zhihong gave an introduction to RUC’s history, discipline advantage, academy strength, and vital initiatives of RUC’s internationalization process. She acknowledged that Renmin University of China (RUC) and Concordia University had signed a cooperation agreement in 1980s. Although the cooperation was almost ceased since the expiration of the previous agreement, Vice President Yi expected that two sides could leverage this meeting to restart collaboration and explore new fields and sustainable ways of cooperation.  President Alan Shepard expressed his agreement with the view of Vice President Yi. He then introduced general information of Concordia University, and showed great interest in RUC’s summer school programs. He expected to send exchange students and teachers from Concordia to participate in these programs.  Dr. Jiang Jing briefed the delegation on the condition of MBA programs, School of Business, and discussed the possible ways of collaboration. D16T8735  Concordia is a comprehensive university located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, with 45,954 students (12.8% international students) and nearly 7,200 teachers. Courses are mainly taught in English. The university offers more than 300 undergraduate programs and over 100 graduate programs in Faculty of Arts and Science, Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science, Faculty of Fine Arts and John Molson School of Business. Art, media and engineering (computer science, electronic engineering) are fairly good. Accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), John Molson School of Business has fared well in academic rankings. Concordia University has also gained a considerable level of prestige in social sciences and humanities. MBA program is ranked 2rd nationally, and 80th in the world (Economist).
