The School of History and the School of Chinese Classics hosted the main activities. They arranged the exhibition with four stands named “self-cultivation”, “family harmony”, “country management”, and “world peace”, corresponding the Chinese mottoes “Xiushen”, “Qijia”, “Zhiguo” and “Pingtianxia”.
First Secretary Qin Yizhi enjoyed the performances of classic poetry recital, traditional costume catwalks, archery contests and traditional kite making. He appreciated the way that students integrated folklore with sports and spoke highly of the activities.
On the playing fields, Student Union president Wang Meng, a senior from the School of Economics, gave a speech about the benefits of doing sports, and the initiatives for every student to work out.

Recently, Chinese President Xi Jinping called on Chinese college students to exercise after school.
According to First Secretary Qin Yizhi, the theme of “quit netholic, go outdoors and keep fit” can be further elaborated into a brand of activities. With long-term implementation the themed activities, he said, he hopes Chinese young people can all stay in good health.
Jin Nuo, Chairman of the University Council, pointed out that it’s crucial for the university to nurture sports culture and team spirit. So the leadership of RUC gave high regard to the activities, and offered their endorsement.
President Chen Yulu said that lessons had been taught during the preparation of these activities. Thus the activities should be in accord with young people’s interests. So, he said, these activities should be designed creatively as something up-to-date.
The Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, the Ministry of Education, the General Administration of Sport, and the All-China Students’ Federation recently began to hold after-school activities for college students in 2014, based on the theme of “quit netholic, go outdoors and keep fit.” Renmin University of China, as one of the ten trial universities in the country, has already carried out several activities, including a carnival, relay race and a training camp. It has already formed a well-organized system, which focuses on self-defense, weight loss and morning exercise.
Student organizations of all levels play a major role in the activities, making full use of interaction through new media, and trying their best to achieve the goal that “every person has a sports event, every class has a sports activity and every school has a sports feature”. The entire university has built up an active atmosphere of sports training throughout the series of activities.
