RENMIN UNIVERSITY, 23 April 2014: Executive Vice-President and Deputy Party Secretary Wang Liming of Renmin University of China met with the Director General of Spanish Patent and Trademark Office Patricia Garcia-Escudero Márquez on the morning of 22 April. The meeting formed part of Director General Márquez’s official visit to China. Executive Vice-President Wang briefly introduced the history of RUC and its key disciplines. He said that teaching and research in Intellectual Property at RUC boasts a long history of excellence. The programme has cultivated a great number of outstanding talents. It also maintains close contact with domestic and international legislative and judicial bodies, he said. While RUC established partnerships with the United States, Germany and France, Executive Vice-President Wang expressed hope that such cooperation can be expanded to relevant departments and academic institutions in Spain. Director General Márquez said that Renmin University’s strengths in Intellectual Property research and teaching have long been known to her. She introduced Intellectual Property education in Spain, and welcomed faculty and students of Renmin University to visit Spain for academic exchange. Director General Márquez was accompanied by Mr. Pedro Cartagena Abella, Senior Adviser of Spanish Patent and Trademark Office. Mr. Wu Kai, Director of International Cooperation Department, State Intellectual Property Office of China, also participated in the meeting, as did the Dean of Renmin University’s Intellectual Property Academy Liu Chuntian and Deputy Director of the International Office Sheng Xiwen. After the meeting, the Spanish delegation visited the Intellectual Property Academy of Renmin University of China and took part in an interactive seminar.
