The 55th Track and Field Sports Meet commenced at Renmin University of China on April 18.   The national flag team, RUC school flag team, freshmen women representatives of Party members, marched into the stadium to the accompaniment of the Athlete’s March, followed by athletic teams from 26 schools. After the flag-raising ceremony, RUC Vice-President Yang Huilin reflected on the achievements in sports endeavors the university had made in 2013. He said he hoped that every athlete would carry forward the spirit of sports. He anticipated that the athletes would demonstrate their strength and passion in the games. Representatives from freshmen Party members performed Army Boxing. Other freshmen performed Taiji. Both demonstrated the uplifted spirits of college students. After President Chen Yulu announced the opening of the 55th Track and Field Sports Meet, the games began. Thirty competitions were held during the sports meet. Twenty-six schools and 42 delegations from faculties and officials attended the meet. A total of 1018 athletes participated. The event also marked the first use of the starting block, electric timer and circle-counting system, for the sake of enhanced accuracy and scientific refereeing. After a day and a half of fierce competition, the sports meet ended on the afternoon of April 19. The School of Finance, the School of Labor & Human Resources, the School of Business and five other delegations ranked among top eight. The School of Business, the School of Information, the School of Economics and five other delegations ranked among top eight of men’s team scores. The School of Finance, the School of Labor & Human Resources, the School of Public Administration and five other delegations ranked among top eight of women’s team scores. The Schools of Information, the School of Labor & Human Resources, Suzhou Campus and five other delegations received  the Sportsmanship Award.  Distinguished attendees included: RUC President Chen Yulu; President of the Federation of University Sports, Beijing, Du Song Tao; Vice-President of Federation University Sports of China, Wang Gang; Executive Vice-Chairman of the University Council, Zhang Jianming; Executive Vice-President for Research and Graduate Education and Vice-Chairman of the University Council, Wang Liming; RUC Vice-President Yang Huilin; RUC Vice-President Zha Xianyou; Yin Zhihong, Former Director of the Sports Department; taekwondo master Li Deyin; and superintendents from every school and department in RUC.
