On April 25^th, Renmin University of China held a seminar on its 'Think-Tank' building. Topics included past achievements, experiences and the routes for future development and reform. Prof. Wang Liming, Executive Vice President and Deputy Chairman of the University Council, hosted the meeting, and President Chen Yulu made a speech to mark the occasion. Delegates of experts and scholars, as well as relevant officials, also attended the meeting. The 'Think-Tank' building is one of the five strategies of RUC’s 'Ten Years Development' planning. The seminar pointed out that over the past few years, the total amount of 'Think-Tanks' in RUC has increased rapidly, as well as the quality and influence. The 'Think-Tank' building has already got its preliminary effects, with the emergence of a great number of influential research teams. According to data from 2013, 34 research achievements in RUC have been informed by national leaders, and many of them played an important role in decision-making. The seminar emphasized that the university has paid high priority to the 'Think-Tank' building, including academic accumulation, key researchers, teamenergy and institutional reform. Meanwhile, the university also has begun exploring the connection between academic research and 'Think-Tank' achievements. The goal is to solve the conflict between research and teaching, and to cultivate influential experts teams with outstanding research ability. President Chen Yulu said that in the 'Think-Tank' building, RUC should always be beneficial to RUC’s own development, duty to the country, the oretical innovation and talents cultivation. RUC excells at subjects of Humanities and Social Science, he said, and has outstanding tradition of social service and talents cultivation. Therefore, President Chen said, RUC should do its best to develop as an academic institute with the best thoughts. President Chen pointed out that RUC was playing a leading role in developing a 'Think Tank' building with Chinese characteristics, based on institutional innovation. In the future, RUC should keep nutruring highly influential achievements with social consensus, connecting the achievements of 'Think Tank' with the cultivation of new talent to give full play to the attraction, energy and social influence of academics, President Chen said. During the meeting, Liu Yuanchun, Director of Scientific Research Office, introduced the development and achievements of the 'Think-Tank' building. Other speakers included Zheng Gongcheng, professor from the School of Labor and Human Resources, Yang Guangbin, professor from the School of International Studies, Prof. Zhai Yaowu from the Research Center of Population and Development and Institute of Beijing Social Construction, Prof. Qin Xuan from the Research Base of Marxism and Research Center of Socialist Theory with Chinese Characteristics, Prof. Wang Yi from the Research Center of Legal Science of Civil and Commercial Case, Nie Huihua, National Academy of Development and Strategy, and Wang Wen from the Institute of Chongyang Finance. They introduced the achievements of their research centers, and gave their suggestions for the university’s 'Think-Tank' development in the future.
