2014.05.06
RENMIN UNIVERSITY, 26 April 2014: Professor Sun Yu, from School of Liberal Arts of RUC, was honored today as the 2013 recipient of The Annual Literary Critic Awards, for his masterpiece,
The Traitor of Writing. Nanfang Metropolis Daily and Sweekly in Shunde, Guangdong, announced the honor as part of the 12th Chinese Literary Media Awards.
In addition, Professor Yan Lianke received the Annual Outstanding Writer Awards, and Professor Wang Jiaxin was honored with The Annual Poet Awards.
The Traitor of Writing was released in 2013. It reflects on the confusion inherent in this disordered world. Prof. Sun was chosen for blazing a trail through literature with his serious criticism and social concern.
Sun Yu studies past scholars as part of his research on Lu Xun and Hu Shi, through which he acquired his critical way of writing. Through observation and introspection, he developed the power to tell a good story.
Every word written in his literary works is elegant and gentle, depicting the suffering of the soul and the bittersweetness of life. The reader feels the grief and sincerity in his narration of life, as well as his tenderness towards his audience.
Reading Sun’s masterpieces is like talking with one’s ancestors: they relay the will and morale of the past. His works travel between the past and the present, combining textual criticism and literary innovation. In Sun’s view, the solemnity of literature is immutable.
The Chinese Literary Media Awards were established by Nanfang Metropolis Daily in 2003, and soon became one of the top literary awards in China. The entries are judged both by their artistry and social impact.
Sun Yu, formerly named Sun Yi, was born in Dalian in 1957. He is currently the Dean of School of Liberal Arts in RUC, Executive Vice President of China Lu Xun Study Society, a member of National Commission for Cultural Relics Identification, a committee member of Chinese writers association, and Chief Editor of Luxun Research Monthly.
