Vice-President of the University of Chicago visits Renmin University of China

RENMIN UNIVERSITY, 7 May 2014: Professor Yi Zhihong, Vice-President of RUC, met today with Ian Solomon, Vice-President for Global Engagement of the University of Chicago.
Vice-President Yi first expressed her warm welcome to Vice-President Solomon. She said that Renmin University had always regarded the University of Chicago as an important partner. She affirmed the collegiality between the two universities since the signing of the cooperation agreement.
Then Vice-President Yi told the guests about the latest progress of the academics and ‘Think-Tank’ building in RUC. She said that the two universities should make the full use of the Beijing Center as a suitable platform to create more convenient conditions for teachers and students to communicate and interact.
Vice-President Solomon expressed his congratulations to Renmin University for their achievements in both th subject rankings and the ‘Think-Tank’ building. He said that the two universities had already witnessed each other’s improvements and progress after the establishment of the Beijing Center.
In addition, Vice-President Solomon emphasized that the University of Chicago, as well as RUC, is now doing a lot of multi-subject research, targeted at solving practical social problems, including urbanization, environment protection, water protection, climate change and big data. He said he would do his best to support future cooperation between the two universities in these competitive subjects.
Other delegates at the meeting included Beth Bade, Executive Director, Beijing Center of the University of Chicago; Yuan Ji, Vice Director; and Liang Xueming, Senior Assistant Director; and Zhang Xiaojing, Director of the International Office.
