RENMIN UNIVERSITY, 15 Sept. 2014 (Via RUC English News) On 12th Sept, the 27th Plenary Congress of Association of Space Explorers (ASE) RUC Day was held in Renmin University of China (RUC). Five astronauts from China, America and Russia, namely Jing Haipeng, John-David F. Bartoe, Vladimir Aksyonov, Alexander Alexandrov and Igor Foucault came to RUC and shared their aerospace experiences and inspirations with students, leading their expectations of “Space Dream, China Dream, World Dream”. 1 This theme activity was hosted by ASE, co-organized by China Manned Space Agency and RUC. On the morning of 12th, “Space Dream, China Dream, World Dream” theme activity opened in the main hall of Century Hall, where over 2000 freshmen of year 2014 listened to the excellent speeches given by five astronauts. 2 Four international aerospace experts respectively told their stories and stated responsibilities of space explorers. Vladimir Aksyonov from Russia is a pilot and an engineer. Alexander Alexandrov who was twice named the Hero of Soviet Union told the benefits space technology development brought to humanity. Igor Foucault, president of international “Earth and Aerospace” Association, introduced his manned spaceflight experiences and feelings. John-David F. Bartoe, a physician and astronaut, emphasized the responsibilities of space explorers. The last one to deliver a speech was Chinese astronaut Jing Haipeng, who had twice been to the space. He gave a vivid account of his life experiences of 13 years served as a fighter pilot and 16 years being an astronaut, and also shared the stories behind the fulfillment of his "Spce-Flying" Dream. He bade the students “dream in mind, way underfoot ”, “relish roughs and surge ahead”, “motherland in heart, let fly dreams”, “work and pull together to strive for the better world”. 3 In the subsequent part of communicating with audiences, the five astronauts had interactions with RUC students. In the afternoon, the five astronauts attended the "Space and Technology" and "Space and Movies" theme workshops held apart in Mingde Law School Building and the Meeting Room of Mental Health Center. They also visited the painting exhibition of Professor Chen Chuanxi in the School of Arts. 4 Zha Xianyou, vice president of RUC, met the astronauts in the Century Hall. He fully affirmed the significance of the activity, and appreciated their coming all the way to popularize aerospace knowledge and interpret spaceflight spirit. This is the first time that the Planetary Congress of ASE is held in China, and under such an opportunity the "Space Dream, China Dream, World Dream" series of theme activities are organized and incorporated into the orientation for the 2014 RUC freshmen. These activities have offered rare chances for RUC students to have close contact with the astronauts, and prove to be effective enough.
