st, Renmin University of China hosted the 2015 G20 Think Tank Summit in Beijing. High-level officials from G20 member states including China, the USA, Britain, Japan, and Germany, along with more than 500 audience members were in attendance. The summit, which was organized around the theme "Global Governance and Open Economy" presented an important platform for policy discussions in preparation for the G20 Summit in Turkey at the end of this year, as well as for the G20 Summit to be hosted by China next year. Co-hosts of the event were Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University, the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies, the Institute of World Economics and Politics at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, as well as the Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey.
Delegates discussed issues such as finding long-term solutions to slow economic growth and other problems caused by the global financial crisis.
Former UNIDO Director-General and Global Chairman of the GASME, the Global Alliance of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, Carlos Magarinos, told reporters that 2016 would see China taking an unprecedented leadership role in global governance. “The think tank summit,” he noted, “marks a significant moment in establishing China’s global influence.”

RUC President CHEN Yulu spoke of the evolution of Chinese political ideals from the time of the ancients: “Today we believe that global governance should be the common concern of all countries. In strengthening its ties with G20, China is making great strides toward greater participation in global governance.”
ZHANG Jun, Director General of the International Economic Affairs Department of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed China’s crucial contribution to G20 as both co-constructor and beneficiary of the international forum.
The opening ceremony also featured the release of the annual think tank report on economic growth and global cooperation. Many new opportunities are emerging, bringing hope in the wake of the global economic crisis. China needs to collaborate with the other G20 member states to bring about healthy global economic recovery. The think tank report stressed the need for setting long-term global economic targets.
