University of Pittsburg’s Chancellor Comes to RUC to Sign Agreement on Pittsburgh-RUC Student Exchange Program

On the morning of September 22nd, RUC President CHEN Yulu met with visiting the Chancellor of the University of Pittsburgh, President Patrick D. Gallagher, to sign an agreement on their newly introduced student exchange program and discuss the future cooperation of the two schools. In his speech given to an audience of RUC leadership and delegates from Pittsburgh, President CHEN introduced Renmin University of China along with its top disciplines. RUC’s leading role throughout China in the humanities and social sciences, CHEN noted, make it an ideal partner university for the University of Pittsburgh, with its strengths in law, business administration, international relations, and interdisciplinary research. Renmin University seeks to strengthen its ties with the University of Pittsburgh in the areas of cultural and educational exchanges, research institutions, and Sino-US academic collaboration. X-IMG_6567 The American university chancellor and former director of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology highlighted the University of Pittsburgh’s strong academic tradition in the fields of the humanities and social sciences, medicine, and the natural sciences. Chancellor Gallagher is confident that the outstanding academic records and competitive research agendas of both schools will make for fruitful exchanges, particularly in the areas of international relations, business administration, and Sino-Latin American studies. X-IMG_6637 After their introductory speeches, the school leaders held the signing ceremony, making the launch of the Pittsburgh-RUC student exchange program official. Witnesses to the signing of the agreement included both RUC administrators and visiting delegates from the University of Pittsburgh. X_IMG_6658 The University of Pittsburgh was founded in 1787. As a leading public university in the United States, it is also known as one of the so-called “public ivies.” The university is a member of the AAU (Association of American Universities). Located in the traditional steel city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the top-ranking university is well-known for its medical school and its departments of psychology, political science, and English literature, as well as for its focus on liberal arts undergraduate education.
