RUC’s Chairwoman JIN Nuo Leads Delegation to South Africa and Zimbabwe

1115 From September 19th to 24th, Chairwoman JIN Nuo led an academic delegation from RUC to visit Stellenbosch University in South Africa and the University of Zimbabwe. 334 Upon her arrival, Chairwoman JIN met with the Chinese Consul General in Cape Town to discuss how best to promote Sino-African exchange and cooperation in higher education. 225 On the second day of their visit, the delegation went to South Africa’s Stellenbosch University, where Chairwoman JIN held talks with university leaders on strengthening academic ties between Stellenbosch and RUC in the fields of law, economics, and culture. The two schools hope to deepen their academic collaboration in the future and continue to promote student exchanges between the two schools. Chairwoman JIN introduced several of RUC’s programs, including RUC Master courses fully taught in English, and invited students from Stellenbosch to consider coming to China for graduate studies. 771 Stellenbosch University, founded in 1866, is one of RUC’s distinguished partner universities in Africa. It enjoys the reputation of one of Africa’s leading research institutions. Its Centre for Chinese Studies, which JIN Nuo also toured during her visit, is known as the leading institute for Chinese and East Asian Studies on the African continent. 881 Traveling on to Harare Zimbabwe, the RUC delegation made their first port of call the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe, where JIN Nuo held talks with Chinese Ambassador LIN Lin. Chairwoman JIN expressed her thanks for the Embassy’s continuing support, stating that RUC was committed to the task of further developing Zimbabwe’s Confucius Institute.

On the morning of September 23rd, Chairwoman JIN visited an orphanage established under the patronage of Grace Mugabe, where she presented children with school supplies sent by donors in China, thousands of miles away. Greetings were sent to Grace Mugabe, Zimbabwe’s First Lady, who is also an RUC alumna. 443 After her visit to the orphanage, JIN Nuo was interviewed by a journalist from Zimbabwe’s National Broadcasting Corporation. Later that same day, she also paid a visit to Zimbabwe University’s Confucius Institute. 8630727193 Renmin University has played an important role in higher education exchanges with African nations; to date, more than 300 African students have graduated or are set to graduate from RUC. Apart from Zimbabwe University, RUC has academic partnerships with Kenya’s University of Nairobi, the University of Lagos, Nigeria, Stellenbosch University, and Cairo University.
