University of Michigan Vice Provost Visits Renmin University

On October 26th, RUC Vice President YI Zhihong received a delegation from the University of Michigan led by Vice Provost for Global and Engaged Education James Holloway and Director of the Confucius Institute Joseph Lam. Renmin University school leaders, including International Office Director ZHANG Xiaojing and Vice Director LÜ Jie, met with their US visitors to hold a Confucius Institute council meeting.
The Confucius Institute at the University of Michigan (CIUM) was founded in 2009 in partnership with RUC. One of its central aims is to promote the teaching of Chinese traditional and contemporary arts. Its director, Joseph Lam, is also professor of musicology at UM; his research has focused on traditional Chinese and Japanese music, as well as Asian American concert music. The University of Michigan was founded in 1817 and belongs to the so-called “public ivies” in the United States
