On October 29^th, RUC’s Chairwoman of the University Council, JIN Nuo, welcomed a visiting delegation from the Free University of Colombia led by the university’s president, Victor Hernando. The meeting served to discuss plans for establishing student exchanges and academic collaboration between the two universities. Chairwoman JIN introduced RUC’s present collaboration with several colleges and universities in Latin America, explaining the importance Renmin University attaches to its Latin American partnerships, including an international student exchange scholarship program. RUC’s Research Center for Latin American Studies was established with the goal of raising Chinese students’ understanding of this part of the world and fostering meaningful exchanges between China and the region in higher education. This delegation was the first to visit Renmin University from the Free University of Colombia, and both schools look forward to working together in the near future, for example in developing opportunities for student and faculty exchanges. President Hernando gave an overview of his university, introducing its leading disciplines. Together with its affiliated schools, the Free University of Colombia has a total student body of thirty-three thousand students. RUC Vice President YI Zhihong, Vice Dean of the School of Foreign Languages JIA Guodong, and Vice Director of the International Office LI Zhenshi, as well as Director of the Research Center for Latin American Studies CUI Shoujun joined in the talks.
