RUC Vice President YI Zhihong Attends 10th Confucius Institute Conference in Shanghai

The tenth worldwide Confucius Institute Conference was held in Shanghai from December 6
th to 7
th. Chinese Vice Premier LIU Yandong gave the keynote speech, while China’s Minister of Education and Vice Chairman of the Confucius Institute Council, YUAN Guiren, chaired the opening ceremony. Renmin University’s Vice President YI Zhihong also attended conference.
In her keynote speech, Vice Premier LIU emphasized the growing importance of cultural exchanges and mutual learning in an increasingly intertwined world. Confucius Institutes at universities around the world offer important opportunities for cross-cultural collaboration in the areas of Chinese language study and research on China. To optimize its teaching and cultural activities, Confucius Institutes should focus on localizing their programs, that is, adapt to the educational and administrative methods and customs of their respective host countries. LIU further stressed the need for integration and enhancing the quality of each Confucius Institute by promoting brand awareness and academic projects forged through international collaboration.
On December 7th, RUC Vice President YI Zhihong joined the conference’s Presidents’ Forum and spoke on “Supporting Confucius Institutes from Home and Abroad.”

During the conference, Renmin University also hosted a reception for all directors of the Confucius Institutes co-established by RUC. Reflecting on the past work of each institute, Vice President YI thanked all foreign and Chinese directors for their dedicated efforts in developing and ensuring the smooth running of the Confucius Institutes and also gave a summary of RUC’s involvement in the establishment of new institutes over the past few years.
