From March 24th to 30th, 2016, RUC Vice Chairman WU Fulai led a university delegation to Egypt and Israel to attend a number of important meetings, including the China-Egypt University Presidents Forum and Inaugural Forum of Presidents of Israeli-Chinese Higher Education Institutions. Along the way, the delegation also visited a number of universities and academic publishing houses in efforts to strengthen ties between Renmin University and higher education institutions and publishers in Egypt and Israel. Sixty years ago this year, Egypt and Israel officially established diplomatic ties. Israeli and Egyptian state leaders have declared 2016 a year of Sino-Egyptian cultural exchange. From March 25th to 26th, the RUC delegation joined another group of delegates from the Chinese Ministry of Education to participate in an educational exhibition along with the China-Egypt University Presidents Forum held at Cairo University. Also in attendance was Chinese Vice Premier LIU Yandong of the State Council, who held a speech at the forum and on the afternoon of March 26th visited RUC’s booth at the exhibition, where Vice President WU introduced the Premier to Renmin University's Press and its program for “going global.” In her speech at the forum, the Premier noted RUC’s leading role in Chinese higher education in the humanities and social sciences, highlighting its solid and renowned programs specifically in the areas of economics and finance studies. During his stay in Egypt, WU Fulai met with university leaders and heads of publishing houses in Cairo to probe ways of organizing future cooperation and exchange both in academic programs and publication projects; initial agreements were signed at the meetings. On March 29th, the delegation made its way to Israel, where delegates participated in the Inaugural Forum of Presidents of Israeli-Chinese Higher Education Institutions, where Premier LIU and Vice President WU Fulai presented the Israeli leaders with the recent Hebrew translation of “Big Powers Responsibility,” published by Renmin University Press. The book deals with China’s growing responsibilities as a global power examined from different viewpoints. It has been translated into English, Russian, Korean, Hebrew, Arabic, and Polish. Vice President WU addressed the forum in English, giving a detailed introduction of Renmin University against the backdrop of worldwide higher education reforms and innovation.
