On April 11th, RUC’s Vice President for International Affairs, Professor YI Zhihong, met with Nepal’s Ambassador to China, H.E. Dr. Mahesh Kumar Maskey. The goal of their meeting was to discuss strengthening cooperative ties between Renmin University and higher education institutions in Nepal. Ambassador Maskey expressed his confidence in the future development of cross-cultural exchange and cooperation in the higher education sector; he also noted his deep appreciation for Renmin University’s cordial welcoming of Nepalese Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli earlier this year. The Ambassador hopes that Renmin University and Nepalese universities will deepen their academic collaboration and promote further exchanges with higher education and scientific research institutes across Southeast Asia. Through these and related efforts, Nepal seeks to develop its scientific research programs in the areas of ecological and agricultural innovation. Ambassador Maskey discussed other issues with Professor YI, such as university funding. Professor YI Zhihong reported on the successful visit of Prime Minister Oli to Renmin University this past March, thanking the Ambassador for his arrangements. In response to Ambassador Maskey’s proposals regarding future exchanges and academic collaboration between RUC and Nepalese universities, Professor YI affirmed Renmin’s support of efforts to strengthen collaborative ties between the two sides. In conjunction with its research agenda on the Belt and Road initiative, including research on Nepal, RUC’s Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies has seen significant results; the university supports the institute’s strengthening of academic ties with Nepalese institutions and welcomes outstanding Nepalese university students to come study at RUC. LI Zhenshi of Renmimn University’s International Office, Executive Director of RUC’s Chongyang Institute, WANG Wen, among others, joined the meeting.
